Nero image tool does not recognize external hard drive

Hello,
I am using Nero's Backitup and Burn (v 5.4) and when I use the boot up from ImageTool Disk option, no matter how many times I try to rescan devices my external hard drive is not recognised. Windows sees my 1TB NTFS external drive without problems (in general and within the Windows version of Backitup). I am stuck for a solution and Nero's support desk has gone quiet on me after just telling me to rescan devices (which I had already told them I have tried). If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Why not just back it up from Windows?

I have backed it up from Windows but it's still bugging me that it won't recognise the external hard drive as it is meant to.
