I'm using Windows 8.1. I want to burn photos and videos saved on an external hard drive to DVDs. I want to be able to watch these DVDs on a standard home DVD player connected to a home TV. I know the videos need to be in MPEG2 format. Out of Nero and Roxio softwares, which one will allow me to burn both the photos and videos. Regards, Kiran

Most of your friends and family will be much happier with just a data disk... Putting them on DVD video is WORSE than putting them up on facebook in terms of quality, all your photos get shrunk down to 720x480 resolution. If you want them to be able to view it on their own computers, make a data disk or put them up on something like smugmug.com
Both are brands, some of their software does what you want it to and some doesn't. You CANNOT make PC readable files and DVD player files on same disk though (there are ways, but compatibility is poor). You can record regular files simply dragging the files into an empty DVD in Windows 8 and 10 (no software necessary), but you'll need a dvd video program for playback on DVD player.

Why not just use your laptop and connect via HDMI though? better quality, zero burning

I used to use nero years ago to burn DVD's and it worked great. It will also burn "data" disc and help you make slideshows if you wish to play them on a DVD player. Some DVD players will read data disc with just pictures on them but you can't do both a DVD video disc with pictures on it.

I have nero 2014 platinum, I use it to play blu-ray files and it works fine for that purpose. While I'm sure the new version will do what you need, I personally haven't done it.

Thank you. This helps greatly

Sorry I might not have been clear why I want to burn photos and videos to DVDs. I want to give them to friends and family and thus the need for them to able to be played back on standard DVD players
