Hello,
I am a total app developer with little to no embed experience so what I would like to know is if there is a direction to look for embedded samba for the netburner device or netbios implementation - I want to have the netburner device connect to external drives not via tcp/ip

I'm confused by what you're trying to achieve. Isn't that the whole point of Netburner? It's all about Ethernet plus TCP/IP stack.

External drives just have a simple (S)ATA<->USB/Firewire controller, eSATA has none is directly attached.

If you want to expand the capacity of an existing NAS enlcosure by adding more drives to it, you're going have to redesign it.

Thanks - sorry for the confusion. We have a design where a software controller would reside on the netburner device and we would want to serialize various files (assets) to another drive (storage) but did NOT want to tcp/ip the files to and from the other storage and we also want to write logging events to an open file instead of batching them and sending the batch to the storage via tcp/ip

Does that make sense?

Also, you indicated USB - so technically I could connect a thumbdrive to the netburner device and use that as my external storage? or is that too simplistic?
