Warning... Slightly technologically challenged here! Hahaha. Purchased a Lenovo Ideapad 100s recently for my daughter. Was told by the salesperson it was perfect for all she does on it- watch netflix. First day it worked perfectly. Streamed videos no problems. Now, whenever she tries to watch anything on Netflix either through the ap or browser the video seems to show a few scenes in like a flash sequence. It then either pauses on a scene or a black screen for a few seconds then resumes playing. Otherwise the playing is okay, a little jumpy but still watchable. The problem is when streaming on netflix this issue is happening at least every few minutes. The audio continues perfectly, even whilst the screen is either frozen or black. Watching videos, even ones in HD elsewhere i.e youtube work perfectly fine. Any ideas, hopefully relatively simple, that might help? Thanks in advance :)

Solution
go to https://fast.com/ test. it test your connection to netflix.
also look at the free space and cpu process/memory usage when netflix.

Again, if it not doing what you want might want to get a better laptop.
Sounds like its buffering, ie it hasn't got enough bandwidth to play a smooth signal. What internet connection speed are you on?

run http://www.speedtest.net/ and see what it reports.

problem is it may not be your end, it could be your ISP or Netflix itself though that is not common.. i don't think. I don't use Netflix myself.

I am so out of my depth here! Haha. Download speed was 15.85mbps and upload 0.99mbps. I have no idea whether thats good or bad! If I stream on other devices in the house i.e ipad I have no problem. Just weird that the audio continues fine while the scenes are fast forwarding then freezing. Whenever Ive had buffering issues in the past before the audio hasnt worked either! Odd.

Which browser does it do it on? It appears its a problem that can occur with Netflix and audio drivers.

try this

make sure all your audio apps (Windows Media Player, Netflix, etc.) are closed (thanks, Acuna)
find your speakers icon at the bottom right of your screen in the tray
right click on the speakers icon (two finger tap if using a touch pad)
select playback devices
this brings up a dialogue box
left (single) click on speakers which should be the first item in the list
(the actual name may be different depending upon which computer make and model you have)
click on the properties button
select the advanced tab
look for the drop down list which is showing an audio setting
(mine was originally 24 bit 48,000 hz)
click on arrow at right side of box
select the highest audio setting you have
(in my case it was 24 bit 190,000 hz)
click okay and close out of all the various screens and boxes
Give your Windows Media Player or the Netfix App a try
Hopefully you will be all smiles as the problem is fixed!
I certainly hope this works for you. Good luck!

It does it in both the Netflix App and on chrome. Its just odd that it was working perfectly fine the first day we got the laptop now not so much. I followed those instructions but its greyed out and no option to change the audio settings. Is set to 16 bit 48 000HZ. I also checked that the graphics card needed no updates also so am out of ideas. Would think it was a netflix issue or internet problem if I wasnt able to stream the exact same thing fine on other devices.

Yes, your last point is a good one. Did the lenova app find anything??

If it shows you have the latest drivers, I know the sound driver it lists as the newest isn't the latest one Realtek have released. I hate it when makers don't update their drivers.

What I would do is download a program called Driver Booster and let it scan the laptop and see what new drivers it can find.

Heed its warnings about turning anti virus off when installing certain things (Internet adapters mainly) as Antivirus may see the program as a threat and crash pc. It did it to me once, hence the warning. It is fairly safe with everything else. It may find updates that Lenova have not listed yet.

The Lenvo app didn't find anything amiss. Have downloaded the driver booster and it has updated something to do with the graphics card but it hasn't helped. Its only a problem on Netflix- both on the ap and in browser. It's getting worse, you cant watch anything because it speeds the scenes up then freezes on one while the audio continues going about every 60 seconds so its hard to keep up with whats going on. It worked fine the first day and started on the second day. We've only had the laptop for 5 days. The other thing I've noticed is it can't keep the correct time. I've changed all the settings to update time and date automatically etc but each time you turn it on and use it it gets more and more out of time. Have currently had the laptop on for about 20 minutes and the time is about 12 minutes slow, even though right before I turned the laptop off after the last time using it I corrected the time.

Says there is currently 12GB of free space. Besides the not keeping time and being unable to stream anything via Netflix it runs fine and fast, even streams hour long youtube videos perfectly so don't think its a space issue?
