Hey guys,
Bought a D6300 today, and having trouble setting it up with all the computers.
I'm using a windows 8 laptop, which will connect to both the wireless and wired networks with no worries.
The others are using imacs, which are able to connect to the wireless network, but not the wired one.
into network connections on the mac, the Ethernet cable option has a red dot, signalling no cable detected, even though the cable is definitely connected. Tried to set up a PPPoE service, some sites said to do that. has an orange dot, signalling that it is recognising it, but won't connect.
is there something specific that i need to do in order for it to properly connect?

Question two: the previous router was a Netgear N600, which, during an electrical storm, cut out. about 4 in the morning I woke up, checked the radar, and five minutes later, came back down to check it again, to find the power light on the router red. The power supply for the router runs through the same board as the computers, which were unaffected. the board is surge protected, so what would make the router suddenly die like that?

please let me know if there is anything i can clear up.
Cheers All

Solution
If the iMacs worked on the old device but not the Netgear, then it's probably buggy firmware on the router. If you are on the latest version, try downgrading 1, 2 or 3 releases. If you aren't on the latest, try the latest. Shouldn't need PPPoE
