Hey, I have two problems with this router. One problem is accessing the settings for it using 192.168.1.1 or routerlogin.net, etc... It seems to time out after about an hour. I reboot the router and can access it, but then after about and hour or 2 I can't access the settings until I reboot it again. The second problem is that after I reboot it, it takes almost 15 minutes for it to receive DHCP settings from the modem. It is running the latest stock firmware. And a question: it's out of warranty, so will installing custom firmware solve anything? If it will, how do I go about it?

also, if you haven't already:

i was having problems with a netgear router i had (a WNDR3700). When i would attempt to go through the router's built-in firmware update, it would say that the most current version is already installed. However, when i checked netgear's website, there was actually another update available there that the router was not finding. Upon downloading that new firmware, it fixed a number of problems i was having with my router.

It looks like currently, Firmware Version 1.0.0.34 is the most current revision. Check your router's current version to see.

Like boosted mentioned, it may just be a brick in the making.

It is on that firmware : P

Tried both of those. The Config page problem is fixed, but it still takes FOREVER to get a DHCP response from my modem

I think my modem doesnt like my router. If I request manually, it doesn't do anything until ~5 minutes have passed. Plugged into the modem directly, my computer connects instantly.

Well, I have flashed the DD-WRT build from your first post and that seemed to have fixed my problems. The router boots in under 30 seconds now! Thanks for all the help!
