Network adapter extension

I'm planning on extending the length of my network adapter usb plug but am unsure if it's a good idea due to it possibly effecting my connections .Any recommendations on a usb extension type for a network router adapter. I'm wondering because i know certain extensions carry a certain amount of kb, mb, or gb. Also does it matter if I choose a male to female or female to male?

Do you want to extend USB cable? Maximum (by standard) USB 2.0 cable length is about 15 feet (5 meters).
What you are ttrying to extend WiFi USB adapter?

I gather its an external usb wifi adapter any way. So an extension lead shouldn't make much difference any way. Just not too long.
