I keep getting this "default gateway" problem, so i looked online and saw that a recommended solution was to uninstall the adapter in device manager then click 'check for hardware changes' to reinstall it.

I uninstalled the adapter and driver now it will not reinstall correctly, it says "windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing" i then tried updating drivers but windows is telling me i have the most recent drivers

I have no internet conection to my pc now so what should i do?

Solution
Ok, so this is a Realtek NIC on your motherboard. This is the link to the driver on ASUS webite:

NIC Driver

Before installing this, go into your Programs and Features and look for Realtek in the list, if you find it there, uninstall them. Then install this driver.
