Hello there
So i have a computer that i built a few years back and its mainly for gaming. I was on it the other night and the power went out. The next time i try to log on the ethernet port not working. I plugged the same ethernet cord into my xbox and it works fine. I kept reconnecting and connecting it to see and eventually the light comes on which indicated it was working. It worked for a day and then i go to get back on it yesterday and it worked for 2 min. I started a game and all was well until the computer crashed. This does not happen often if ever. It restarts and low and behold the ethernet port isnt working. Its been 24 hours now and its still not working. Ive been through countless restarts and unplugged it. I troubleshoot and it say there are no network adapter drivers installed. There are none on the device manager. I went on my roommates laptop and downloaded the drivers i should need. These being for an asus m5a97 le r2.0 motherboard. I go to install from usb and it says first
FindFile failed w a red x. Then

The realtek Network Controller was not found. If deep sleep is enabled Please plug cable

Ive removed and reinserted the ram and all that jazz. I cant get to bios to check any settings either. Every time i restart or shutdown and turn on i get a black screen and then it starts windows immediately
Usually i get asus screen w press f2 or delete to enter bios
I been mashing f2 on startup a couple times but tht wont work
So first of all, how the hell doni get back to my bios screen maybe from the desktop - windows 7 btw
And secondly what do i do about these drivers
I still have the disk tht came w the motherboard. Should i use this. Its at another loaction atm 90 min from me so id like to fix this w/o it. But could i just use it? What are the consequences of doing so
Thanks for any help

Solution
If the NIC is dead you can get a network card to fit your PCIe slot or go WIFI using a USB adapter. I use Comfast at 300mbps and works fine for only around $20.
So ive figured out the bios issue
I held f2 after restart instead of lookin for the screen and discovered fast boot was enabled for some reason. Reset to default bios
Still getting
If deep sleep mode is enabled please plug cable. Ive been on many other threads and cant get this to go away. Removing ram for 30 min didnt work
Resetting bios didnt work
Removing power cable didnt work. Any other suggestions?

MeanMachine41, What do you mean change to sleep mode. Im in power options
Change what exactly to sleep mode
Are you referring to where it says
Change when the computer sleeps
Then
Put the computer to sleep: (time)
Doni select never for the time or is what your talking about somewhere else. In advanced power settings?
Also thank you for your response

I tried setting the timer to never and rebooted the computer. Didnt work
Then i tried with 20 min timer just cause but i when i try to download the drivers again i still get
The Realtek Network Controller was not found
If deep sleep mode is enabled please plug cable
The default was 30 min but that clearly wasnt working
Am i missing something your saying?

Yeah there are none listed. Like i said in the original post the power went out and all the sudden theres no drivers. Ive had this computer for years so ive had internet. Only ethernet though. I downloaded the divers from asus website on a budds laptop. Transfered via usb but the install wont work. Any ideas what it could be?

Just to update i tried to install the driver in the link that you, MeanMachine41, sent just because why not; but the results were the same. Also to test it i installed usb drivers as well but they were fine. There was no error message for them

The only thing I can think of why the driver won't install is that you may have to try as administrator. Normal user privilege may not allow for security reasons. Either that or somehow your Bios has been corrupted due to the power outage.
Update or flash your Bios to latest and see if that helps.

According to your MB specs your Ethernet is Realtek 8111F, 1 x Gigabit LAN Controller. I doubt any others would work.
The LAN drivers are also available from ASUS support here: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/M5A97_LE_R20/HelpDesk_Download/
Also sometimes updating the chipset driver helps.

Sigh
Updated the bios but it still says the same thing about deep mode
Whats the chipset driver?
Also, couldnt i use the disk to redownload the original ethernet drivers. Isnt that how they got on the computer in the first place?
Finally, is it possible that something on the board is physically damaged due to the power outage?

Try it you have nothing to loose rochae74
Not sure if this will work for you however give this a go.

To prevent the Ethernet adapter from deep sleep.

Go to Start > Click Control Panel
Choose System and Security
Click Device Manager (under System)
Open Network Controller properties by:
Double-click Network adapters to expand it
Double-click the Realtek Network Controller
Turn off Deep Sleep mode by:
Choose the Power Management tab
Untick “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”

The Chipset driver is one of the most important drivers your computer needs to work properly which creates a base for all the other drivers to install and work properly. You should always have the latest chipset drivers installed that are available for your motherboard.

Go here: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/M5A97_LE_R20/HelpDesk_Download/
I'ts doubtful that damage was done as more than likely nothing would work if you had a serious power spike.

So after browsing the internet even more extensively than before i posted this, based on what others are saying it would appear that the controller is dead
What other physical options do i have. I dont wanna get a new board or send it in to get repaired. Would a PCI card be good to get as a fix? Thats what others are recommending on forums. I wanna remain wired so what can i get to do that? Since i built the computer myself i opted to go w/o wifi adapter

Are there any stores where i can buy the pci card w/o ordering it
Also do i need a specific one for my motherboard
My wifi really sucks btw so like i said i would prefer to get my hands on a card

Any decent computer store should stock PCIe Ethernet cards. Just give your local store a call.
They are pretty much standard for all systems. You don't need to spend more than $40 for a decent card.

Got the pci card and low and behold the great internet has returned. Wish i coulda fixed this for free but i shoulda had a surge protector. Thank you MeanMachine41 for all your help.
