Have boxes of 5e cable and the hand tool. Have the chart showing the arrangement of individual wires but have never been able to get the ends on and make it work. If there is good advice and perhaps a video it would be much appreciated. Guidance sought

Strip 2 inches of outer sleeve. Arrange your wires per the 568B color code with orange to the left. Hold between thumb and finger and use wire cutters to trim to about 1/2 to 3/4 inches. Insert into RJ45 with pins up. Crimp. Repeat on other end.

You don't say that you have a cable tester, but you should. Something AT LEAST as good as this -- http://www.amazon.com/KINGLAKE%C2%AE-SC8108-Multifunction-Network-Tester/dp/B00GFH8B0I

Guidance from sum1 who used to do this for a living: Patch cables with plugs on both ends buy ready-made, it's cheap enough at monoprice.com. Those plugs look simple enough to put on but they are not, specially for the novice. In-wall cables with jack on both ends, PUNCH them, using a punching tool like the Pro phone guys.

There should be like a million videos on youtube.

You might find these type of connectors easier to work with. They include an insert that helps keep the wires aligned.

I also prefer a good pair of wire snips over the wire strippers included on most crimp tools.

There are quite literally dozens (if not hundreds) of videos on YouTube that show the process. It's important to have clean cut and even ends, and inserting fully into the plug prior to crimping.

It's difficult to become proficient without lots of practice. If you are just making a few cables, just be sure to leave enough slack to allow for re-terminating the ends if required.
