Ok i have a strange problem with the computer running the software for our PLC.
If I reboot the computer then the internet works fine. i can connect using team viewer and i can surf websites. after about half a day, i am no longer able to connect to the computer using team viewer. when i pull up the network connections it says the network is connected. I can ping websites outside of our local network. release/renew through cmd does not fix issue. disabling and enabling the network connection does not fix the issue, i have to fully restart the PC for it to work again. I have turned firewall off and still no change. Windows gives me some information about the issue that this could be and tells me they have a hot fix but when i search for it, it is nowhere to be found. I am starting to think that its the "tcp time wait delay"....possibly? I am usually pretty good at troubleshooting network issues but this computer cannot be moved into my office to troubleshoot, network connections cannot be disconnected in any way while it is running, and it can't be shut down during work hours because it runs the software for the PLC; which makes it that more difficult. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Solution

Hello, thanks for the reply. Yes it is a company owned computer ( the company in canada who owns the PLC program won't do anything about the problem so, it is up to me to troubleshoot it myself even though i hate touching the computers because that is an easy out for them if something goes wrong.)
Not sure what you mean by "aslk the it service"? thanks!

i t service is the techincal service provider they pay to maintain there system and since you could not move it or disconnect it from net in busnisess hour that could be hard could you try to use another lanr card for test or a usb pen drive to router oin wireless this wil help to see if it is not a board lan chipset falling .

Hey scout_03,

I have contacted their I.T people repeatedly and don't get an answer. the last time i talked to one of them they blamed team viewer being the problem but when it happens i am unable to use remote desktop and also brows the net using firefox and IE. The main manager that oversees the department that uses that PC needs results regardless of who fixes it, so..here i am :/
Most of the time i just use a vpn or team viewer to get into the system after hours and then troubeshoot from home but with this issue it makes it impossible to troubleshoot remotely.
one of the only other things i can think of is that there are 3 network connections on this pc. 1 being the local lan and the other 2 going directly to the PLC for data transfers (and these have their own IP assigned by the PLC), could the internet programs like team viewer, etc. be looking at those connections which is confusing the software? highly unlikely but just thought i'd ask. I thought it could be software related but unable to shut down and leave it in safe mode with networking for a full day to test. this is the only PC having the issue so i know its a problem with only this pc. I have installed a WiFi USB adaptor and connected it to the wireless AP which is connected to the same network as the LAN. Still same issue.

to be clear with plc remove team viewer from the pc then see if you could use browser on the lan and if it work the other thing since this is the ony one that does it could you chek another compuer plug in the same way for all network setting on plc and lan if they are similar but that lead me there is could be a motherboard issue in this pc .

Scout, I can try and remove team viewer but i don't see how team viewer itself could be interrupting the network connection but i will def uninstall it and leave it till mid-day tomorrow and see if i am still able to access webpages. If that ends up being the cause of the problem i'll smack myself lol. it's easy to over look little things so thank you for that suggestion! There is a computer that is set up exactly the same as a simulator, and this computer was not having any issues with connection. I also disconnected the ethernet cable going to that simulator PC and plugged it into the problem PC, and vice versa and still same issue.
