i have had to reinstall windows 7 64bit. However, I can no longer see the network controller in the device manager or install any drivers or connect to the internet. could someone help me out?

Solution
First up, I would get into the bios and make sure it didn't get turned off by accident somehow. Usually the default is 'on/enabled'.

Next, because you reinstalled it (start from a cleaned/empty drive I assume?) many of the built-in networking chips do require a proprietary driver which doesn't come in the default installation for Win7/64 bit. You'll need to get on a friends computer and download the appropriate driver for your particular hardware. One of those problems when you have an integrated NIC. If it was an integrated Intel, it would have found that, but Realtek doesn't get a default driver in the base Win7 installations which is unfortunate because it is a very common piece of hardware.
