You don't need VPN for Diablo2. Someone hosts the game, and the rest of the
players join to hosts ip address. If you're behing routers, or NATs, that's
a different story.

Yep, that works fine for LAN parties where everyone is on this side of the
firewall, we do it alla time. Doesn't address my original question though.

Oh, OK, I get it.

I have had some experience with VPN, all of it bad I'm afraid. In windows XP
you can setup a VPN server, to accept incoming connections. This works
great. I've played Warcraft3, NFS, and various other games like this. The
problem is, only ONE person can connect to this. First I thought I
misconfigured something, but no, it's a limitation Windows XP, so you can
only accept one user. You have to have Windows 2003 server and whatnot to
have that full feature. So, it's quite useless. Try to find a third party
program for the server. I had no luck in that department, because most of
the software out there is for companies, and is quite pricey, and
unavailable for common folk.

Good luck! If you manage to find a decent VPN server that can accept more
than one user, let me know.
