I've been networking forever on 95/98 computers, but 2000 opens up a new world of fun for me. I've been trying to get this working for almost 2 weeks now.

My 2 computers right now are named server and namek. If I'm on namek, and type in \\server I can browse around and it works just fine. Networked games work just fine as well. But if I go to My Network Places, only the name of the computer I'm on pops up. How do I set it up to show all?

If you need the info, they are both on 2000 and sharing a dialup connection (woo)

Any help would be much appreciated.

I've got 2 hard drives shared on both computers already. I'm also sharing a printer on one.

I'm still going crazy trying to figure this out. Hardcore networking at my college is fairly easy, but something as simple as my home network shouldn't be driving me insane

oh, I think I know what the problem is - once you get into my network place, you have to go "up" a few times to view entire network, then microsoft network... (you get the picture)

This is not the problem I'm having, sorry if that comes off smart ass or rude.

If I go through My Network Places, and go through my workgroup name, only the computer I'm currently on pops up. According to My Network Places, the other computer never exists. The only way for me to access it is by manual typing in \\name of computer.

When I was using 98, the protocol netbui fixed this. I tried installing it for 2000, but it didn't fix anything. IPX multiplayer games work just fine, along with normal file copying/sharing, and internet sharing. I'm dumbfounded at this. It's probably something so incredibly simple I'm missing it. If I'm being too vague, or you want to know a specific setting, lemme know

Thanks again ^_^

you sure you didn't make a typo in the workgroup name or something? (BTW, you didn't come off smart ass or rude)

Sorry I took so long to reply, I've been at class.

I don't have a software firewall, and I'm pretty sure there are no typos. The only thing that I just thought of that might be the problem, is the way my network is set up. I used to have it going through a regular hub, but now I just have the 2 computer hooked together with a crossover cable (cat 5 of course)

They can ping each other just fine. There's no problem with the actual hardware networking of them, like I said before if I type in \\name of computer, it pops up just fine.

It's just in My Network Places, in the proper workgroup, the only computer name that pops up is the one I'm currently on. This has never happened in my 98 days, heh

This is driving me crazy, because my little brother is always saying like "dude, share your d: so I can play some mp3s" and I say "It is shared, type it in manually" then he says "you should really fix that man"

Ahh!!

Problem Solved!

I was inspired as I was driving home today. I got home, and changed the workgroup name, and is magically showed both computers. Don't know what the problem is, and frankly, don't really care anymore ^_^

And to top it all off, it's Friday! Kick ass

then he says "you should really fix that man"
he's a lazy ba$tard. I absolutely never use the stupid network neighborhood. It's for losers. Just do it manually and be done with it. Glad you fixed it.
