What is the point in one and could I build a gaming PC without one and still connect to my home wireless WiFi connection?

I checked them out and I do not understand them and also why are they so pricey. If someone could help me out over here.

This is an older Tom's article but it gives a good overview of what powerline networking is -- https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/network-switch-guide,4047.html

Basically it is using the power infrastructure in a home to transfer data. If you are thinking about it, I recommend you purchase your hardware somewhere with a liberal return policy. Not all home power infrastructure works well, but I can't tell you ahead of time. Also the latest version of hardware is the "AV2" standard. The fastest devices are AV2 MIMO like these -- https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833704310

That motherboard does not have built-in WIFI. WIFI is not a good choice for network hardware for gaming. Any wired network would be better. If you haven't tried powerline network adapters, I would recommend you try them before you fall back to WIFI.

My router is downstairs while I plan on having my PC upstairs. I have no way of getting a cable to go all the way upstairs and into my computer, even which if there was a cable long enough my parents would not let me use, and my parents would definitely never allow me to drill a hole in the ceiling to get a cable through. A wireless connection is my only option.

EDIT: I just watched a video on it and I have no idea what a powerline network adapter is... I thought it was a make of a Ethernet cable and you just recommended I use a Ethernet cable LAN connecting instead of wireless?
