Network Switch Setup

Hey, I just found a network switch, and I'd like to try it. It's a SMC Barricade 7008BR, it's got 7 numbered ports, and one "WAN" port. My guess is that I plug in the incoming connection into the WAN port, and plug in the PCs trough the numbered ports?
I tried that, and the WAN light lights up, the lamps indicating that I plugged in the PC light up, but I don't get any connection.

Thats a router, not a simple switch

To use it as a 'switch', you have to turn off all the router functions.
Firewall, DHCP, etc.

Then plug the incoming line into one of the LAN ports, not the WAN port.

What exactly are you trying to do?
I guess that by "incoming connection into the WAN port" you actually mean outgoing internet connection i.e. WAN.
My send guess is that you're trying to connect one or more PCs to the internet using this router.

You will need to configure the router for your internet connection.
In most cases, you just put the wan into automatic i.e. Get IP address from ISP and turn on DHCP.

Sorry, but I'm new to this as you probably guessed . So, does anyone know some kind of tutorial to turn this router into a simple switch? I know I have to turn off the router functions, but I've got no idea how. And yea, I actually plugged a cable, going from my router, into the WAN port on this thing. Thanks all

Is there any specific reason you want to use this particular device?
As just a switch, it is easily replaced by anything in the $25 range.

But...try from your original router into one of the LAN ports, not the WAN port.
See what happens.

That puppy is a "serious man toy" and takes some serious education to configure. For the purpose of a home switch, it's like 10,000x overkill. You are right to give USAFret a best answer.
