Question networked Hard Drive setup help

Hello all!

I’m looking to upgrade a networked drive (WD Cloud) to something with better access speed.

Where to start…

Here are the details
  • 2 computers need to access the drive
  • The drive needs to be connected to the internet so we can access the drive remotely from time to time. Speed does not matter when preforming this task

  • I edit videos on a Lenovo P71 laptop with 2 Thunderbolt3 ports with Win10 pro.
  • The other computer just needs average speeds to view images.
  • The two computers are only 10 ft apart and the drive and sit near either computer

Budget is around $700, flexible.
GB size around 8t’s

I’m open to a NAS setup or a signal drive like the WD Cloud, but with faster access speeds.
Thanks all,

At that budget, a NAS box is hard to beat. 2 or 4 bay QNAP, Synology, Thecus.
I have a 4 bay QNAP TS-453a.

This gets connected to your router, and is accessible from both systems.
Be very, very careful about enabling outside access. It will get random connection attempts, at least daily.
