Imgur photos of some cpu info

So CPU says I have it at 3.7 yet CPUz says its running at 4.4. I know that https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/turbo-boost/turbo-boost-technology.html exists for cpus working overtime and what they are using but I haven't touched overclocking and it starts running at that speed even when the computer just starts and I have very little running in the background. Any real help for this? I use a Asus Z370A Prime board and I am unfamiliar with any overclocking but am curious about any settings or updates I may have missed when upgrading my system.

Solution
As long as the CPU isn't hitting any thermal limits or power limits it will turbo. It's common for this CPU to run at those speeds even when very little is happening. If you have speedstep enabled it will lower the clock speed when idle or close to idle but it will still spike up to the turbo speeds every now and then. You'll rarely see it run at 3.7GHz unless you disable turbo boost.

You have a I7-8700K. It has a base operating frequency is 3.7 GHz and the turbo boost frequency is 4.7 GHz. If you look at the CPU-Z, it will list the current CPU clock. Under that is the multiplier in a range. And under that is the Bus Speed probably 100 MHz.

If you multiply the upper and lower range by the multiplier, that will give you the range of CPU frequencies that you will see at any given time. When you overclock the CPU, you increase that upper multiplier.

The CPU will jump around from that lower frequency to a max of the upper frequency depending upon the demand placed on the processor.

Was mainly just curious. I have a H100i v2 so not really worried since it doesn't get above 60 even with intense gaming. Was just curious about the speeds.
