The system requirements listed for the game are misleadingly low....that being said you should be able to "run it", but not very well....A P4 is fine, but the video card should be upgraded ( don't through good money after bad....use E-Bay to pick up a cheap one ). RAM should also get a bump to at least 1GB. We have a P4 3.06Ghz with 1GB RAM and a 7600GS AGP card dedicated to NWN and it runs just fine. I also run the PRC HakPak alongside CEP. Without the 1GB of RAM and AGP card, I could not run the HakPaks with it ( which you'll probablly want to do eventually )....

Edit: of course resolution plays an important role too....what are you using for a monitor/resolution ?

I recall playing this game just fine an ATI 9600 Pro (DDR2) video card and a 1.5 GHz Pentium 4. That is a VERY modest system by anyone's standards. Man, that was awesome playing on the Neversummer Night server! *sigh*

I still have the mentioned P4 and a couple other old machines set-up for LAN play with PRC 3.1, CEP 2.0, and Endless Nights 4 Module. The old 32MB cards just don't cut it....My youngest kid is playing the OC for the 1st time, which he couldn't ( very well ) on a 32MB Radeon.....I don't play it anymore though....after 30 or 40 times through, it just becomes repetitive...LOL.....Dragon Age hopefully will be my next addiction....The patches after the original brought up the SysReqs....I started playing on a P3 1Ghz with 512MB and 32MB Radeon, but with the current patches, I can no longer run it on that machine very well ( very slooowww ).....I rarely throw out a machine....I just keep adding them...LOL...The small old video card seems to be the common factor for me...
