Both of our setups will make any upgrade to Ivy Bridge and the next-gen video cards easy, and give you good performance at 1600 x 1200. Mine will probably be quieter and give you a higher overclock. I would also recommend the Crucial M4 128GB if you want an SSD.

Corsair Carbide Series 400R: $99.99 ($89.99 after rebate)

3 x Thermalright TY-140 (1 bottom, 2 top): $14.99 each ($44.97)

SeaSonic X650 Gold: $109.99

ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3: $124.99

Intel Core i5-2500K: $219.99

Thermalright Silver Arrow: $82.99

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB DDR3 1333: $47.99

XFX Radeon HD 6850: $149.99 (119.99 after rebate) + Free Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB: $59.99

LG CD/DVD Burner: $17.99

Akasa Flexa FP5: $9.99

Total: $968.87 ($928.87 after rebate)

That h/s might run quieter, but I don't know about the case seeing how it uses 120mm fans vs the 200mm fans the CM case uses. Also sticking a $82 cpu h/s on a $125 board doesn't make much sense seeing how there's like zero gain in FPS after 4.4ghz with these SB cpu's. Going from a gtx 560ti which is king of the hill atm in regards to o/c vs a... 6850? That's like saying I want to trade in my Z-06 Corvette for a Dodge mini van.

It would be quieter because of the PWM. You're probably right about the HS, though. Did you see the resolution he wants to play at? You're asking him to spend $100 more than he should on a video card that's going to be obsolete soon.

Not sure about obsolete. I do know that he will have a better chance of maxing out games such as BF3 with that 560ti, and I do know that I posted a build that came in around $50 cheaper than your build and got him a real vid card in the process not to mention he shouldn't have any problems getting to 4.4ghz with that set up.

Maybe you thought the OP was going to replace his gpu and cpu as soon as Ivy Bridge and the new generation vid cards came out and that's why you stuck a 6850 in that build? Anyone with a budget of $800+ these days deserves better than a 6850.
