New 120GB SanDisk SSD 'Plus'; multiple issues.

I just purchased a 120GB SanDisk SSD 'Plus' from Best Buy and I am experiencing multiple problems. As soon as I went into the 'Disk Management' thing and attempted to create a 'New Simple Volume', it locked up. Like, the 'Wizard' opens up, walks me through all the options and then I click on 'Finish'. After clicking that, the Management application freezes and just sits there. It then pops up this dialog:

I am unable to get it to activate the disk, or even do anything with it. It does not appear under my list of Hard Drives in 'Computer', as it is still in a 'raw state'. I can easily operate the Disk Management application with standard HDDs; only this SSD seems to be giving me issues. I made certain and tested it with an unused 1TB HDD of mine; I had no problems. Could someone please tell me what I ought to do?


I did visit the SanDisk site, but it is an infuriating maze of unhelpful 'support' documents. There is no listed 'Driver' for it, no information telling me what I should do after plugging it in. I am becoming increasingly irritated because I feel that I have wasted my money on this piece of rubbish.


My intentions are to simply clone over my existing Windows installation over to it, so that I can boot off it. Nothing special.

Well, I resolved my own issue after rewording my search term several times in Google. I eventually stumbled across a microsoft article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2001877

  1. Open Device Manager. You can access Device Manager by typing "Device Manager" or "devmgmt.msc" in the Start Search box.
  2. Once Device Manager is open, click on "Storage Volumes" to expand the Storage Volumes portion of the device tree.
  3. Under Storage Volumes, you should notice a volume listed as "Unknown device." Right click on this device and choose "Uninstall." When asked to confirm, choose OK.
  4. Right click in Device Manager and choose "Scan for hardware changes." Once the scan is complete and installation of the volume completes, you will be able to access the volume.

This quite instantly fixed my issue. I am now able to happily use my SSD:
