[SOLVED] New ~$2000 system for Gaming+Streaming

Hey,
I'm looking for a build for a guy I know and decided to just go with the template suggested in the sticky. If you need any more info don't hesitate to ask.

Approximate Purchase Date: Within 2 months, possibly a few weeks.

Budget Range: $2000 (more if necessary)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming+Streaming, primarily racing.

Are you buying a monitor: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1400p, will possibly go triple monitor for racing games.

Parts to Upgrade: All hardware except peripherals

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: It's bought in the UK

Parts Preferences: AMD CPU, but that's because of the current performance landscape

Overclocking: Not necessarily

SLI or Crossfire: No

I'm thinking something along the lines of an RTX 2080ti, a Ryzen 9 3950x, 1TB SSD, some storage and 32GB RAM. It's not a decided formula, I just need help fleshing out a build.

You'll need a couple 120mm or 140mm fans to put in the front of the case. Not sure what your RGB tastes are (or aren't)

• Min. ddr4-3600 (AMD is more sensitive to RAM speeds than Intel)
• Min. 3TB Storage (7200RPM)
• Preferably AIO cooler unless there's really no reason.
• No more than £2000

@tennis2 I'm not sure about the meshify, but my Fractal Design towers always come with sufficient fans to get decent airflow. I have been using different versions of the Define myself for almost 10 years. I'll make sure he knows he can fit in more however.

I fear your $2k budget is pretty darn optimistic for a 3950X and 2080TI....short of being given all the rest of the components for free, anyway...

Couple of issues here.
The Cryorig R1 even if cheaper, is actually a better cooler than the X52. If you wanna go AIO you have to go for better ones like the X62 or Corsair "i" series.
That 20 bucks that you save can go towards the ASUS TUF board which has relatively better VRM and power cycles.
Also that RAM has CAS 18 latency which is bad compared to CAS 16.

This is what it looks like it'll be.

It does give me a warning that Cooler Mobo combo may require separate mountings. Do you know if that'll be a problem? I couldn't imagine it would. It should fit on an ATX board.

The nice thing about water cooling is that you don't get quite as rapid of temp fluctuations, so your CPU frequency should maintain a little more consistency.

The Cryorig R1 is good, make sure it's AM4 compatible though.

It's easy to look up the case you're intending to buy on the manufacturer's website they tell you what and/or how many fans a case includes in the box. The FD Meshify C comes with a single 120mm rear fan preinstalled.

The infinity fabric is not directly clock-linked to the memory controller in Ryzen 3rd gen, so that "ryzen needs fast RAM" thing isn't as true anymore compared to 1st and 2nd gen.

Fair enough. I think my define came with 3 fans. I doubt it's going to be an issue at stock speeds, even if he only has 1 fan in there. However, for longevity's sake he should probably get 2x 120mm or 1x 140mm(if 140mm fits, haven't checked) fans in the front.

If you do an AIO, put it on the top of the case. They're too restrictive to airflow to use them as the sole source of intake for a case.

He insists on 3950X, 2080ti "and whatever goes with that".

Yeah, just click a part list you like so far, then click "edit this list" above the blue wattage box and sub in the 3950X and 2080Ti.

The 2080 Super is a much stronger value IMO, but clearly this is a spec race now.
At least the 3950X has more cores than the 3900X. Whether the extra cores will go to good/any use.....debatable.

I'm personally the other way around. 2080TI does have some merit performance wise, but I don't agree with his choice to insist on 3950x for gaming. He'll get less than 2% performance out of it, and only in some games. Often it makes no difference at all.

Should probably remember that he is streaming, but he won't need more than a core or 2 dedicated for that, and the 3900x is 12 core.

Also, I stand behind the build we've found here. It's what I would've bought. The other build is to give him the options he asked for.

FYI.

Forza abnormally favors AMD cards obviously. I've found that BF5 is a lot more representative of general performance trends.

We're talking about a 55-60% price increase for a 15% performance increase. 2080S to 2080Ti.
