Hi everybody!

I'm a canadian freelance 2D/3D artist and I need a new PC!

Any comments, validations, noticed errors are welcomed!

So far this what i've cumulated for a budget of 5000$ CAD:

Regarding expected workload, i'm a veteran 2D/3D freelance artist, so it ranges from 2D graphic art to video and 3D animated CGI, I'm a jack-of-all-trade ;)

CPU:
Intel Core i9-12900K 3.2 GHz 16-Core Processor
719$
CPU fan:
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition RGB CPU Air Cooler for Intel LGA1700/1200/1151
68$
RAM:
128GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4 3600MHz PC4-28800 CL18 RGB Quad Channel Kit (4X 32GB)
670$
SSD: (2)
Seagate FireCuda 510 1TB Performance Internal Solid State Drive SSD PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe 1.3
298$ x 2
(edit-updated:)
Graphic card:
GIGABYTE VISION OC GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 12GB GDDR6X PCI Express 4.0 ATX Video Card GV-N308TVISION OC-12GD
1273$ at newegg.ca
And I forgot the case:
Antec Dark League DP502 FLUX White, Mid-Tower ATX Gaming Case, FLUX Platform, 5 x 120mm Fans Included, PWM Fans with Controller, 5.25" ODD Support, Tempered Glass Side Panel, Swing Open Front Panel
110$ also at newegg.ca

Motherboard:
(frankly here, I just went with what seems compatible, there are SOO many brands im lost)
(Each time i started by choosing a motherboard, I always ended up not being able to find one of the other parts)
MSI MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4 ATX LGA1700
320$
Power supply:
EVGA Supernova 1200 P3, 80 Plus Platinum 1200 W
291$
Internal blu-ray burner drive for archival:
Pioneer BDR-212V Blu-ray SATA 16x Internal Blue-Ray Writer DVD CD Burner drive
89$

... and windows 11 pro FFP (Full product package) at 259$ CAD

Is there anything you see here that seems out of place, right out inadequate, or making no sense?

Thanks in advance,

Remi

NVLink isn't really relevant to the expected workloads, you can have multiple GPUs for rendering without NVLink.

Threadripper is a dead platform, and Threadripper Pro is still not available to retail? Even if it is, still a very expensive option. Getting 32 cores is nice and all...

I would actually argue for waiting a few weeks for Ryzen 7000 to launch. The 7950X is going to be the superior chip by quite a lot compared to a 12900K or KS. Could also wait for the 13900K, which will have double the efficiency cores, for 24 cores 32 threads (8p/16e), vs the 16 core 32 threads (16p) of the Ryzen.

If you are sticking with the 12900k, you can always upgrade to the 13900K when it comes out. In either case, you need a much better CPU cooler. The Evo 212 was designed for 77-95W CPUs. These monsters can such down 200+. Look at a be quiet dark rock Pro 4, Deepcool AK620, Noctua NH-D15, etc.

Sorry my part list is obsolete, made quite a few swaps for better/faster ones. Order sent, thanks for contributing!
