Hi there i need help because i recently purchased a new AMD Radeon HD 5850 graphics Card for my Alienware M15x Laptop however the card doesnt seem to be showing up or working..

I installed it 2 days ago and it slotted perfectly and everything and i then downloaded amd catalyst 13.9 as when i searched for drivers it kept saying to download that then i installed it but when i try to run it i get an error "There are currently no settings which can be configured using Catalyst Control Center" so maybe thats something to do with it.

Also i have removed all previous video drivers from my nvidia GTX 260M and there is no trace of them left. When i go into device manager under Display Adapters it just says Standar VGA Graphics Adapter and there are no unknown devices or anything.

Also all i did when installing the card was remove my nvidia drivers completely then put the new card in my laptop and dowloaded catalyst control center. I didnt change the BIOS or anything.

ASWELL when i click on the VGA Graphics Adapter it says AMD ATI Technologies but is still just staying in integrated graphics and when i download the amd auto detect, it detects that i have an AMD 5000 Series but then doesnt connect for me to get the drivers

Bear in mind this is my first time installing a graphics card in my laptop so anything i have missed please tell me.

Try this out (from another site:

Hi,

yes you can download the ati drivers from the ati website. There is a little catch however, where the only way to install the drivers is to do the following:

Once the drivers downloaded and extracted, press on cancel instead of install. THen navigate to this folder:

C:\ATI\Support\10-6_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc\Config\

There you will have a file called InstallManager.cfg. Open it with notepad and change "WorkaroundInstall=false" to "WorkaroundInstall=true"

then run setup from the C:\ATI\Support\10-6_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc folder

It should also work for new drivers.
