New and more RAM and now i lag

Ok so i have a Dell XPS15 L502x (yes i know, its a fossil) that i purchased about 3 years ago or so. Could get some games i had (BF3, MW3, CoD Ghosts etc...) to run smoothly with the measly 4GB (3.25 usable i believe) of RAM that came with this laptop. So the other day i purchased 2 G.Skill RAM cards as a set listed in the link below,

and now i lag even worse than before with double the RAM!
What did i do wrong? Is it something i did, or is this laptop just seen its days?

Only use identical ram - same maker, same part number - to guarantee success.

Conceivably, this ram may not work properly with the Dell mobo, not all DDR3# ram will work with all ddr3 mobo's,
the other question I would have is as you say, with the old ram, only 3.25 is usable, is your OS 64 bit?

The ram purchased was the same 204 pin, DDR3 1333MHz, SO-DIMM as the ram replaced

Sounds like you had a 4GB and added 2 2GB sticks? That can screw things up, and being a laptop with a locked BIOS not a whole lot you can do to straighten out the DRAm, might try with just the new an see how that is - it may not like the sticks themselves

I may have been a bit unclear so i apologize for that. My xps15 has 2 RAM slots. I REMOVED the 2 x 2GB factory RAM cards and REPLACED them with 2 x 4GB G.Skill RAM cards of the exact same Mhz. Now it lags.

While you may need to double check w/ dell, not all memory is compatible w/ all mobo's. Even memory from the same company as the original may not work depending on frequencies, latencies & manufacturing differences. Many mobo companies put out list of specific memories modules that should work in their mobo's for this reason. It doesn't mean others won't work, but they may not. If your original memory works & the new memory doesn't work properly, (if thats the only change you made) there are only 2 reasons 1) the memory is bad or 2) it's not compatible with your system.

Do you have the latest BIOS? Test one module at a time to see if each runs smoothly.

I updated the BIOS drivers and everything works smoothly now. I didnt know what BIOS was till about 5 minutes ago....im computer retarded
