Question New Aorus 15G YC laptop undergoing frequent hard resets

Feb 3, 2021
Having trouble straight out of the gate with my new Aorus 15G YC laptop. I've been experiencing frequent hard resets, where the computer will suddenly display a black screen for a few seconds before restarting. Windows Event Viewer lists this as a kernel-power (ID 41) error, with little additional detail given as to what is happening. The problem is very pervasive; I am unable to get through more than a couple hours of use before this happens, and often this will happen multiple times in quick succession.

Some initial observations:
  • Temperature does not seem to be a factor at all.
  • Failures have occurred at times under very little CPU load.
  • BIOS and key drivers are up to date.
  • Failures have occurred both while using the PSU and while on battery.
  • No problems were found when I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic.
Is there anything I can try on my end to stop this from happening? Or is the computer just a lemon? There are plenty of accounts online of people experiencing problems similar to this, but most don't seem to occur in new prebuilt machines...

Selected specs are as follows (full specs here):
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-10870H
  • Graphics: Nvidia RTX 3080 (laptop) and Intel UHD 630
  • Memory: 32 GB DDR4
