New Asus strix gtx 970 graphics card wont work with hdmi?

I recently bought parts for my first ever computer build. Everything was going smoothly, it powered on with the first try and all.

My graphics card has a little white LED light on it next to where i plugged in the pins from my power supply, and the fans will spin for about 10 seconds under the card and then stop. When I plug an hdmi into the card, and into the computer I get the "no Hdmi signal" on my screen.

I pulled a lot of strings to purchase what i need for this build, and I really hope I didnt damage anything(I cant imagine that I did)

Does the led stay solid or flicker when you try to use it, if it flickers it means the power cable isn't in fully.

Does monitor only have 1 hdmi slot? If it has more, can you set a default in the osd?

have you tried other HDMI outputs?

The LED is solid. And yes, there is only one HDMI slot, ive tried it on another TV with HDMI, and still get no response. thanks
