New asus x79 deluxe not powering up

Hi guys, i just replaced my faulty rampage iv extreme with the x79 deluxe and after i set everything up i tried to start it but nothing. Only the power and reset led are lit up and when pressing power nothing happens, no fans spinning nothing. I reseated cpu i7 3960x ( no bent pins) reseated ram, checked all connections and everything looks fine. My power supply was working fine like 1 month ago and all components are not used since then. Bios is 0801 and 2 evga gtx 580 are connected aswell as sound card, hdd, blu ray player and ethernet card. I tried with 1 stick of ram in every slot (corsair dominator-gt) and i pressed the clear cmos button aswell. Im going out of ideas and if someone could help me solve this issue i would be eternally grateful! Ive be very carefully handling the board.

have you check if your memory is compatible with your new motherboard?

Well now that i look at it they are 2133 mhz and maybe i would need to set that in bios? But that is strange and im pretty sure the pc should power up even without ram..

yeah it should but sometimes incompatible memory gives off wierd issues like pc's not powering up, working then bsod and so on.
also check your PSU..try borrowing from a friend and test it with your setup.

Unfirtunatly i would have to buy a psu to test that, i tried the paper clip and works fine and like 1 month ago i tested psu witha multimeter and voltages were fine. Ine thing i did was leaving rhe cpu inside another motherboard socket in my room without anything covering it, could that have killed the cpu?

what do you mean without a cover? no heatsink? and it was running? if so then yes.

No it wasn't running. Just sitting there in the motherboard socket and my motherboard was on my desk for one month. Nothing spilled on it or anything tho.

by the looks of it. the processor maybe the problem....btw did you check if your memory is compatible with the new motherboard? here http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/X79DELUXE/HelpDesk_QVL/ look for the part number in your memory.

Can't find my code (cmt16gx3m4x2133c9) in there. But it should be supported since my memory is kinda custom. I just find it wierd that it is not powering on, not even for 1 second and no fans spin. 1 month ago processor was working fine and since then i didn't touch it. I remember that some thermal paste not electrically conductive (just a reallllly tint dot, not even bigger than a tiny piece of dust) got on one of the "connector plates" but i immidiatly cleaned it off. I don't get it, the processor looking at it looks fine! Is there a troubleshooting to know if its the processor that is dead without needing another cpu or motherboard? Anyone with this board that can help me please?

the reality is the only way to test it is one by one....and if you don't have a spare motherboard to test. your just gonna rely on luck.

Just to clarify, have you tried using a minimum hardware configuration involving only 1 display card and 1 HD etc?

In the OP you mentioned pressing the CMOS button. Have you also tried removing the CMOS battery for a while to ensure your new motherboard gets a fresh start to deal with the RAM you are using?

Should the motherboard have power on it without the battery or not? And for how much should i take it off?

well the quickest way is just to RMA you motherboard. since you said there's no way for you to test the parts. if that still fails...well then you will need to test each parts one at a time.

Just gave back the board for a new one, if that doesen't work i will try to test each component. Anyone able to tell me if the ram im using is supported by this board? Or what board is a good alternative to this? ( same or lower price(x79))?

If the CPU fan is not spinning when starting the board, then the 8-pin power cable is not connected to the motherboard, or the power supply does not work, or you've got a faulty motherboard.
But I tend to believe that the power supply does not work.
The paper clip test is not relevant. Try borrowing a power supply, or ask a local PC shop to test your system with a power supply.
