New budget PC or new GPU?

Hey All,
I've got an old i5-3570k, asrock z44 mobo, Radeon 7950. I'm thinking about upgrading, though mainly using for Fortnite and I want every advantage better graphics can give me in the game. So I was thinking about getting a Radeon rx 580 8gb... seems like this would be the cheapest option and the bottleneck wouldn't be too bad. But maybe I should just get a cheaper new pc with a 1060 6gb. I don't know if it's worth the difference in price - ~$300 for the card vs ~$1000-$1300 for the PC. Will it really make that much of a difference? Thanks!

EDIT: Forgot to mention I've got a 2560x1440 IPS monitor
This is an example of prebuild I was looking at:
Intel Core i5-8400 unlocked processor, an MSI B360-A Pro system board powered by a 600W PSU, 16GB Intel Optane Memory plus 16GB 2666 DDR4-RAM, a 1TB Hard Drive plus a 256GB SSD, and a GTX 1060 6GB

Eg pre built - http://www.microcenter.com/product/507160/G223_Desktop_Computer

Recommended for Fortnite is a Core i5 (no generation specified) that hits at least 2.8GHz per core; your i5-3570K at stock hits 3.4GHz, so a 6-core CPU probably won't provide much improvement (especially when the per-core frequencies are so close.

GPU-wise, Fortnite seems to favor nVidia over AMD -- even the 3GB GTX 1060 beats out the 8GB RX 580 (https://www.techspot.com/article/1557-fortnite-benchmarks/) at 1080p & 1440p. However, unless you have a high refresh rate monitor, you can probably get either the 1060 or the 580 & be happy. And they are not only roughly in the same price range...

I'd overclock that 3570K as long as you have good cooling. Getting around 4.2ghz should give you a bit more of a performance bump and getting a new GPU would be a good idea.

Something that may give you a bit of a advantage is going with a 21:9 monitor.

The link is 3440x1440 however it would be the same for 2560x1080.

PCG has a good article on fortnite here, if you scroll down about 1/2 way to "Fortnite CPU performance" they have a benchmark that includes the i3-8100 (which is in a very good 2nd place rank).

Your 3570k is only very slightly slower so I agree keep your current system, upgrade to a 1060 6Gb or better, then upgrade your cpu/mobo/ram to whatever 6+ cpu core system when you are able to.

Thanks all - I went with this, buying the graphics card alone - though I bought the Asus 6gb 1060. Tried Fortnite: so far running between 90-120 fps with 3d graphics set to 90%. In other words, huge improvement and I probably didn't even need the 6gb. I'm sure a new computer would've been cool but this more than suits my needs. Also, if I want, I can upgrade the mobo, cpu, ram later. Thank you!
