Looking for a new build it would be solely used for gaming have a £1000 budget and need an OS included.

I just struggle to be decisive and am torn between the i5 7600k or the ryzen 1600x

Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Ryzen stock coolers are decent. They won't be as good as some aftermarket options, but they're pretty good.
Ryzen, even at stock are pretty solid offerings. Personally, I'd just go for it and worry about OCing later.

BUT, if you wanted an alternative, the Intel i5-7600K would be a solid option (and can also OC). Adds some cost though, and won't come with a stock cooler.

Do you need a monitor or peripherals?

Intels offerings have the 'better' gaming performance on a IPC basis.....but the added cores/threads of a Ryzen chip would likely be beneficial for the future, with only a very slight impact to current performance.

I'd be more inclined to take the 1600 (non X) and Overclock it, or the 1500X.

Personally, I'd look to something like this:

Overclocking is not very difficult, provided you do your research and understand what you're looking for.

If you have no interest in Overclocking, Ryzen may not be the best option for you. While they're fairly strong at stock speeds, outside of cores/threads, their greatest benefit is OCing IMO.

If you just wanted to take OCing off the table full stop, then an i5-7500 and 2400MHz RAM

BUT at that point, you're looking at comparable performance to Ryzen, with 4 cores/4threads vs 4core/8thread, slower memory...

Ryzen still makes the most sense to me. Forget what I said earlier, it's still the most viable option for your needs, even at stock.
