New build advice and thoughts

Hey guys, so I just ordered the parts for my new build and I'm super stoked. It's the first time in a while that I'll have a pc that'll be able to perform well. I do however have one concern...how important is a really good mobo if I'm buying good hardware. Will this current build perform well or will the mobo bottleneck it at all?

Core i7 7700k
GTX 1080 G1 (8gb)
Coolermaster VS650 PSU
Ballistix sport 8gb DDR4 (plan on adding 8gb more in the future)
Gigabyte B250DM-DS3H mobo
250gb samsung SSD

Should everything run fine on that mobo? Afaik it's all compatible but will it perform well? I know the mobo isn't amazing but it seems to have overall good reviews.

The motherboard will work, but with your current parts I would highly recommend a z270 board. You picked an overclockable cpu with a chipset that doesn't support it, if you don't plan on overclocking then I would save some money and go for the non K sku version.

I don't believe you can over clock on that motherboard. The CPU will work but you will not be able to overclock the CPU. You will need to get a Z270 motherboard to be able to overclock. However, as long as the motherboard has everything you need then it will work fine(other than overclocking).

You would honestly have been better (& significantly cheaper) going for an i5 8400 & a z370 board.
That way you could have gone 16gb ram now from the start.



That said , even at stock on a b250 board the 7700k is going to be a solid performer.

The psu , there isn't a coolermaster vs650.

Theres a coolmaster v650 - which is fairly solid
& there's a corsair vs650 - which is a budget psu & shouldnt really be used with components of that spec or value.

You also haven't listed a cpu cooler , the k series chips don't come with one!

I do not plan on overclocking at the moment. Does the boost frequency of 4.5ghz require overclocking? So can it only run at the base of 4.2? Or how exactly does it work? Also, my apologies, it as a corsair vs650. Why should that be a concern? A friend is running one with his 1080ti and i9 and ir hasnt given him issues.

The cpu will still utilize the boost frequency but you wont be able to go past that. The 650 watt power supply won't pose any problem.
