[SOLVED] New build advices

Hi, I'm looking to build a new computer to replace the one that I built 7 years ago. The main focus of the build is on gaming, mostly on CPU intensive games rather than GPU intensive. One exemple being Total War Warhammer 2. It would also be used for easier things : browse the web, watch videos and movies and other simple and easy to handle tasks. I've been a bit out of touch last year or so with PC hardware, and I'd like some advice, mostly on the CPU/motherboard/RAM/cooler choice.

So I already came up with two different builds, one being Intel based, the other one being AMD based. The budget is anything below CAD$3000 before taxes and shipping, although the goal is not to absolutely spend it all, but get a computer that does what I want for the next 7 years again. I expect to be able to play about any game I want for that long, and I'm willing to set the graphics lower as time goes. One last point is that after those 7ish years, instead of building a whole new system, I might just replace the GPU and add more RAM, hopefully keeping the CPU, which makes it an important choice.

Go for the Ryzen buildd. However you can make some changes.

You can go for a much cheaper B450 motherboard such as the MSI Tomahawk, unless there is a specific feature you want on that ASUS board PCIe4 is pointless at the consumer level as even the most demanding PCIe application wont use the full available bandwidth.

For your GPU you could save some and get a slightly slower RX5700XT

The last must have change is your RAM. For Ryzen get 3200mhz or faster RAM, there is significant performance loss with slow RAM with Ryzen.

I've heard the B450 boards require a BIOS update to run 3rd gen Ryzen. It was more about not having to do that part than about gaining PCIe gen 4. Thanks for your answer.

Some do, but some are shipped now with the updated BIOS, it should say if it is Ryzen 3rd Gen compatible.
