First off, I am a long-time lurker . . . I am looking for a bit of final advice on my build. My current PC is 8 years old! Windows VIsta home 32bit, AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+, 3.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 312MHz (5-5-5-15), W2061 (1600x900@60Hz), 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (MSI), 465GB Seagate ST350063 0AS SCSI Disk Device (SATA). As you can see, the PC is in need of updating . . .

Approximate Purchase Date: Buying a piece at a time ending with MOBO/CPU/GPU/RAM

Budget Range: USD $1500 +/-. Spent $1300 8 years ago so . . .

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming (1080 now, 4k later?), internet usage, video editing (rarely).

Are you buying a monitor: Most likely

Parts to Upgrade: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Valreesio/saved/cthBD3

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Overclocking: Yes (Eventually, as needed to keep up with future requirements)

SLI or Crossfire: Yes, (1 card now, another in the future possibly)

Your Monitor Resolution: currently play 1600 x 900 (ack).Would be happy with 1080 for now.

Additional Comments: I want a full size tower as I have decent size hands and I am very tired of no room in my current case (HP mid tower) I could care less about the looks as it will be hidden. I only care that it has a lot of room, good airflow and being quiet would be a plus.

I may like to buy a 6600k/6700k cpu just to go to DDR 4 and give myself a bit more room until I have to build again. As you have already read, I went with ddr2 instead of ddr3 8 years ago and have regretted it for more than a few years.

I also am planning to go with 16GB RAM for the same reason. Buy it now and not in 5 to 6 years. I get 8 is fine for gaming now and for the near future. I thought 3 was the same and 8 years have passed . . .

I currently am playing Diablo 3 and some older games. I used to play a lot of World of Tanks, but can no longer play due to requirements of game. Would like to play it and World of Warships again at 1080 with high settings. I also would like to play Skyrim and Fallout 4 with new build. I am stuck with Skyrim on the 360 . .

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: HA HA HA HA HA . . . Read my current specs.

Only thing I changed was the graphics card, insane memory but overall is better. http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-390-vs-MSI-GeForce-GTX-970 I also left the cooler you selected however I would go for water cooling as you will see better results!!!!!

Here is a skylake build I understand what you are saying this will last you longer however you wont see much difference in the way of game performance however future proofing is always a good way to go!!! to reduce costs you might want to go for the i5 6600k instead however that is up to you!

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-6700K-vs-Intel-Core-i5-6600K as you can see the differences aren't major!

I have been considering the 390 as well, but have really been waiting to see if Nvidia is able to up their game in DX12. The next couple of months should see a lot of improvements I think. That is one of the reasons I am purchasing those components last.

fair enough! you clearly know what you are doing graphics wise! would be sick to go crossfire on those 390s! I am still running a 7970 and thinking about crossfiring that! anyway back to the question it is really up to you as you won't see too much perfromance difference however the skylake will last longer as it is the newer of the two and also has DDR4 and you will be able to buy better processors as they release them!

Anyone else have anything to add? If there is another case that would fit the bill besides a 750D, I am open to opinion on that. I want to buy my case first. I keep going back and forth on it.

Everyone here seems to love handing over their cash to Microsoft. I bought a win7pro64oem on Amazon a few days ago for $52. Once you upgrade to win10 you never need to use the win7 disk again and you can turn around and do a clean install with a usb 3.0 thumb the whole process takes about an hour.

I will keep that in mind King. I guess I have put together a pretty decent system otherwise, as nobody has much to say except oli and king. I was honestly expecting for my list to be torn apart . . . Pleasant suprise for me.
