New build and the BIOS can't find the hard drive

I completed building my computer today, after having to return a dead mobo. When I go to the bios it cannot find my hard drive, only my cd drive. I know the hard drive spins so it is getting power, but the bios cannot see it. Is there any way to tell if the hard drive is dead or if it's another problem? The hard drive is a Seagate Barracuda 1tv drive, completely bare and the mobo is a Asus p8z68 v-pro.

So I took an old laptop hard drive and plugged it in, and it spun up and was recognized. Could I just have a dead harddrive?
