Hi, posted last night but couldn't find my post and guessed it had been deleted due to it being very vague and useless in terms of help for you guys. Realised there were guidelines on posting so thought I'd give it another go. I need pretty much every standard component you'd want from a build, including accessories (monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse, etc).

Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: December this year (waiting for payday!) but could potentially wait until after Christmas if the holidays have an effect on prices.

Budget Range: £800 After Shipping (would be happy spending £900 if it made a real difference, however I don't just want to do it for the sake of spending the cash)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Skype, streaming movies/TV, surfing the net.

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Location: Shetland Island, Scotland, UK

Overclocking: No

Additional Comments: Not too fussed about the casing, would prefer if it were small though, as there's not much room around my desk. Software/games include League of Legends, LoLRecorder, Battlefield 4, Skype, iTunes, other standard programs (Office, etc).

Thank you very much in advance! 😀

This should give you a general idea what your looking for.
You had room issues, the case is 48cm h x 45cm long x 20 wide, so its not really that Big.

Thank you for the quick reply. In my post last night, before it was deleted, somebody suggested a quick build. In the build they suggested I get two 8gb for my RAM. Would this up the cost much and would it be worth doing? Or would I be better off spending the money on something else in the build? :)

8gb is more than enough for gaming, 16 is more multimedia oriented ram values. It would double the cost of ram making it a 900 pound build, Its not necessary, 8gb is just fine.

Thank you for explaining. I have little knowledge of hardware so it's good to know what does what, what's better to upgrade if you can only upgrade one component, etc. :) If you were making your £800 build into a £900 what would you change? (I guess the rest of the money could go towards the accessories). Another note is that I will be looking to upgrade/add to my build when money comes available, maybe a SSD? Which component will be outdated first from this rig, i.e. what do I wanna look to upgrade in future?

Turns out I'm going to need to the ability to run some 3D design/modelling programs smoothly also such as AutoCAD and NavisWorks, not sure if this would require any changes. The size of the case isn't completely detrimental, I would just prefer not to have a huge one. Obviously if the PC works better with a bigger case (cooling, etc) then I'd rather get that.

Also, on another note, would I be better holding off and being able to afford something twice the price, just for the sake of a month's waiting? The reason I ask this is because the build given above doesn't include peripherals and I worry that including those in the build will have too much of an effect on the components and thus the performance will take a big hit. I'm also looking for longevity in the build, so I'm naturally assuming that more money in the first place implies longer life from the components.

I did not include pheripherals becouse you did not ask, and people ussualy keep those out of budget, if you can spend more if you wait another month its definitly worth, you dont need to spend double the money but i can include better things.
Also if you need to hold off a good share of Cad and 3d modeling i would change the Cpu to an fx8 and double the ram.

Lets say if you could spend 500 pounds more, i could definitly upgrade the build signifitly.
If you can give me an idea of how much you can spend, and what kind of keyboard/mouse you want, when i get home in a couple of hours i can make a fresh build.

Okay, so if I say I had a top end budget of 1500 and that's for everything. Not really sure with the peripherals because I really don't keep up with this sort of stuff. Are laser or optical mice better? Would appreciate it if you could let me know what would be okay to sacrifice from the rig if I need to cut down costs. Thanks a lot, just this post alone has helped me understand a bit more about it all to be honest. :)

I was having a quick look earlier and it seems as though I'm going to be better off buying all of my items from ebuyer as my friend can get discount on certain items from there. I'm happy to buy parts from different sites but if you could try to get most from ebuyer.com then I can send him the build and see what he can get discounted. However, if there's a part that's pretty much 100% required for the build that can't be bought from ebuyer (I know they lack quite a few different SeaSonic PSUs) then I'll happily get it from somewhere else.) Just thought I'd add this before you started working on it (if you've already started then don't worry, I can do the ebuyer part after).

I will need a wireless adapter too as there's no chance I can get an Ethernet cable to my PC from the router. I'm not sure if motherboards/components nowadays come with adapters built-in so probably worth mentioning. Sorry if I'm being over-demanding, I'm just spending a lot of money on this and want to make sure I get it right. :')

Yeah sure its no problem, i can use the same site for everything (or near eveything).
Mobos have the wireless built in, there is no need for an extra card.
I havnt had much time to build anything yet, when i get home (in aournd 4 5 hours) i can build something, and ask around to optimize your money.

Yeah, no rush, take your time :) I don't want you to think I'm rushing you at all when I'm adding notes in here, looks like I won't be getting it until after Christmas if I'm upping the budget anyway so there's plenty of time! I just find it hard to hide my excitement haha!
