Hey everyone,
I am at the edge of craziness with a new build. I have several years of experience and have build computers before but this is killing me.
Specs:
NZXT Phantom 410 Mid Tower
EVGA GeForce GTX 760 SC 4GB
Western Digital Caviar Black 2 TB SATA III
Kingston Digital 120GB SSDNow V300 SATA 3
Kingston Technology ValueRAM 24GB Kit (3 x 8GB) 1600MHz DDR3 PC3-12800 ECC CL11 DIMM
Rosewill 750W 80 PLUS BRONZE Hive-750
Gigabyte AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gbps USB 3.0 ATX DDR3 1600 Motherboards GA-970A-DS3P
AMD FD6300WMHKBOX FX-6300 6-Core Processor Black Edition
Windows 7 Pro x64
Here is the problem:
I put everything together, I am 100% sure everything was right, including the stand-offs, thermal paste/heat sink, video card/RAM seated correctly, connected the 4-pin and 24 pin, had the correct 6 pin and 6+2 pin on the video card...etc.
Problem 1: System would not start up (it just powers up for a few seconds then dies) if the video card is in the PCI express x16 slot. So I moved it to the PCI express x16 (x4) slot. It powers up, everything looks good.
Theennn it will randomly power itself off completely, sometimes it would be 30 minutes, sometimes over night, then I would need to turn the power supply off/on to get it to start again.
I checked all the voltages, RAM, HDs, Video Card, everything. Nothing was overheating, I even ran a few benchmarks and checked the temps while running and it was great.
Second problem, the on-board sound would not work, at all. I tried 4-5 different drivers, two different sets of speakers..nothing.
After all that I slowly started to take stuff out and test...Did the same thing. I checked the power supply with a paperclip, it ran fine...I even hooked it up to my old computer with the same pins and it ran fine, no buzzing or any noticeable sounds.
I took out all but 1 RAM and moved it to each slot, nothing. I ran the Win 7 RAM test and it came back with nothing. I used another stick of RAM I know works from my old computer and still nothing.
I even took the motherboard out of the case and just had the CPU/heatsink, the required power and 1 stick of RAM. Then I used a screwdriver to 'push the power'.
(After all that it still would randomly power off by itself)
Then I ordered another motherboard, figuring since the on-board sound was messed, it could have other problems:
ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
The old motherboard would at least boot and seem fine then randomly power off. This new motherboard won't even boot, it spins everything up for a second then dies. I had it down to sitting on a box with just the CPU/heatsink, power, etc and still won't go anywhere.
THEN I ordered a new CPU. Same thing.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I am probably just going to replace the power supply (Probably should have in the first place), but if that doesn't work I will go crazy.
