New build audio interference

This one is confusing me...

I just built a new PC, which uses the same audio setup and cables I had before, but there's a really annoying screeching noise (generally quite quiet unless you jack the volume right up, but some games amplify it really badly).

I took out the 3.5mm jack from the PC and plugged it in to another audio source (my phone) and no interference at all, even at high volume.

I plugged it in to a different (front of case headphone) output on the PC... screeching again.

I plugged headphones in to what I now presumed to be the offending outputs. No interference.

So if there's nothing wrong with the sound system, cable or jack AND there's nothing wrong with any of the outputs on the PC, why on earth does this screeching interference happen with a particular setup?!

Some system info: msi Z170 gaming m7 mobo using integrated Realtek audio (yes, i have uninstalled and re-installed drivers).... that's all i can think of that's relevant!

We'd benefit most if you could include your full systems specs inclusive of OS, audio equipment and the peripherals connected. Have you verified that the devices you're running on are all grounded and that the wall outlet is grounded as well? I've had a similar issue whereby high powered devices when not receiving a proper grounding(i.e the mains are well insulated and have a good copper cables running to the bottom of the buildings foundation) tend to have a static produce on powered speakers that run off a 2 pin power chord. There isn't much you can do apart from introducing a ferrite choke at the ends of the cables that connect to your speakers and the audio ports.
