Hi,

I'm looking at building a new computer and plan to source the most expensive parts on Black Friday. I live in Canada.

Do you have any feedback on this build?
I also have a few questions below.
Thanks so much:

/// = UPDATED

GPU - MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X 6GB /// $390 (newegg.ca)
CPU - i5 7600 /// Thinking the i5 8400 ($240 newegg.ca)
MOBO - MSI Z270 Tomahawk Optane Boost /// Thinking Z370 SLI Plus ($188 newegg.ca)
RAM - any DDR4 2400 on sale /// ADATA - XPG Z1 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($159.99 @ Memory Express)
PSU - EVGA SuperNova G3 750W /// EVGA SuperNova G3 650W ($100 newegg.ca)
SSD - Samsung EVO 850 250GB /// Already bought for $90 sale
HDD - 3TB BarraCuda (will probably get down the road)
Chasis - Phanteks Enthoo Primo /// Already bought $90 Kijiji

I hope to play CS:GO and Overwatch and PUBG (possibly new FPS too) at over 60fps.
Monitor is 1440p 144hz 24". + two other 1080p 60hz 24"

Questions:
1. I don't plan to overclock, is it okay to get the non-K processor?
2. I like the Z270 because it has Optane Boost and other great specs. But it only has ALC892 sound and not ALC1220. Will I notice this? /// Looking at Z370 + i5-8400 now
I use Sonos Play 5 for speakers and Logitech G933 for gaming.

Thanks so much!

That is not true at all. I've seen a few of the BF / CM deals being offered. There is not a store around that will offer any discounts on current GPUs and CPUs like the Intel 8000 series and AMD Ryzen 3/5/7, NVIDIA 10 series and AMD...

1> You don't need a 750W PSU. The i5 7600 draws a maximum stress load of ~70W and general gaming load of ~40W; the GTX 1060 generally draws ~120W under load; even a 550W is plenty for your current config. If you want to have some extra headroom to expand to i7k+ top power draw GPU (i.e. 1080Ti / Vega 64 / etc) then 650W is the most you'll need.

2> Unless you like the look of that case, I'm pretty sure you can save a bunch of money by going with the Enthoo Pro M over the Primo.

But to tell the truth, it is not advisable to get an i5 Kabylake at this point. You'd probably pay quite a bit more for that than an i3 8100, also a quad cores but clocked at 3.6Ghz on all cores, and since you already looking at Z270, going with Coffeelake Z370 would have been the better choice (granted that availability is still a concern at this point).

A quick price comparison:
i5 7600 3.5Ghz all cores base clock, single core Turbo Boost up to 4.2Ghz:

vs the i3 8100 locked at 3.6Ghz all 4 cores (there are only 4-5 of this left at Memory Express, the other places no longer has this chip in stock as it seems):

Corsair RMx is picked for the 8100 build for its equally strong performance, quieter fan and the fact that its 165mm length would be a better fit with the Pro M case.

The most expensive parts will *NOT* get discounted on Black Friday. People always think that's when they will get the best deals, but most of the time it's actually a mistake to wait for Black Friday. The reason being is that the high volume and always in demand items like CPUs, GPUs, motherboards, and other high end components are the things that never get discounted. What gets discounted instead is the low volume junk that stores can't move the rest of the year. Yeah sure you'll see some store selling a "GOLD RATED 850W PSU $55!!!!" but it's usually generic, off brand no name junk that could barely power a light bulb.

(Buy the SuperNova 1000W ( you always want overhead the lower the load better for everything else in the system & uses less power then a 750w would under load.)

Really? For a single 1060? You sure about that? :heink:

"Black Friday/Cyber Monday" is merely a marketing term for the period of 1 Nov to 15 Jan.
And that is just to divest themselves of last years gunk that did not sell, but that looks good in an ad.

Your new expensive parts will almost certainly NOT be discounted.

The only way to find a deal is to actively monitor the price every single day, often 2-3 times a day.
Last year, I scored a 32GB RAM kit for $120. It was at that price for less than a day (mid Nov), and then went right back up to $165-$175.

Black Friday starts next week.

This is one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever read on this site. This system will barely use 400w, even a 750 is major overkill. And on no planet will a 1000w unit "use less power" than a 750w unit under a 400w max load, unless you bought the most ridiculously inefficient 750w ever made, compared to a platinum efficiency 1000w.

Hell again,
I will be monitoring prices between now and Black Friday and looking for good sales. Right now none of them are on sale.
Last two years black friday sales catalogues actually show some good deals on MOBO, GPU, CPU, and RAM and not on off brands.

I don't care for sales on PSU and HHD because it won't save very much (less than $100).
But sales on GPU, CPU, MOBO, and RAM will result in hundreds of dollars in savings.
Doesn't have to be Black Friday, but they are not on sale right now.

MOBO: I would get ASUS Mobo but I can't decide which are good. Z270 Prime is so close to MSI in price so what's the point.
GPU: I'd get the 1070 if it was under $500 CAD but currently it's $700. Stupid miners.

PSU: I don't understand how the 1000 PSU is going to be better than the 750. As someone else already said, 750 is too much. I want it so I can use I can use it on a 4k rig in a few years (potentially)

Chasis: Phanteks Primoo - I bought this already from someone on Kijiji for $90 CAD. Pretty much brand new condition.
SSD: Bought the Samsung Evo 850 250GB for $90. These are the only two items I already have.

That is not true at all. I've seen a few of the BF / CM deals being offered. There is not a store around that will offer any discounts on current GPUs and CPUs like the Intel 8000 series and AMD Ryzen 3/5/7, NVIDIA 10 series and AMD Vega. And RAM is in short supply right now because the iPhone X is using the same Samsung B-Die that is found on most DDR4 modules, causing a shortage, so the price of RAM has skyrocketed as a result. So you will not save the kind of money you think you will be saving. Most of the BF deals are designed just to get you in the door.

Solution

All you can do is monitor the prices for your selected parts. Monitor daily, or twice daily.
When it is at a price you wish to pay, BUY IT.
Don't wait until the next day, in hopes that it will go down even more. It may go back up.
