Good evening,

I've just built my gf's PC and I wanted to install everything for her. I can't get windows to boot from the DVD drive. I nicked it from my current PC because I haven't used it since I installed windows on this PC.

I get the "Reboot and Select proper Boot device" error.

I've gone into bios settings and changed the Boot Option Priorities to: it says
Boot Option #1: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS72 AKA, my Dvd drive. I know it works, I just used it the day before to install some other software on my PC
Boot Option #2: The only other option, it's set to ST10000DX001, AKA the hybrid HDD/SDD

I've ensured both the power and sata cables are plugged in, I've unplugged and replugged them in to double check as well.

I've popped the MOBO battery out and let it reset and tried it that way. I've also swapped the SATA cables around to different ports to try that

Any ideas?

EDIT: The build is as follows
GA-970A-UD3P
Radeon HD 7850 2gb
Phenom II x4 965 B.E.
Thor 2 case
Seagate 1TB Desktop SSHD SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive (ST1000DX001)
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 ram
And the "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS72" which is the cd/dvd optical drive.

Under Peripherals, I've set OnChip SATA type to AHCI.

I switched the Boot Mode Selection from "UEIF and Legacy" to just Legacy, still getting that error.

what about when you try from boot menu, press f12 when booting, does it do the same thing?

also keep pressing any key after you selct the cd drive as "press any key to continue" may not be showing up.

...... I'm embarrassed to say what the problem was after 3+ hours of troubleshooting.. but it helps if you have an actual copy of Windows 7 OS in the optical drive instead of a copy of Windows Office..
