New build - changing out processors on Z97 board. Can I do it without issues?

Hello all, I just made a build based on a MSI Gaming Z97 mobo and a MSI Gaming OC GTX 770 (4GB) card. I have a Corsair Air 540 case and a PC Power&Cooling 750 watt PSU.
My question is this:

My plan all along was to get a Devil's Canyon i7 4790k, but I have been using a i7 4770k for the past two weeks until I got my new 4790k (with a Corsair H80i). The 4770k is not mine and I have to return it to my friend when he gets back from vacation. The system has been running absolutely perfectly and I haven't had any issues (so far). I'm running 64 bit Win 8.1 and have 16GB of 1600MHz RAM. My boot drive is a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, and I also have a 1TB HDD.

I'm not certain if there is anything special I need to do, or can I just drop the new i7 4790k into the mobo? I'm really nervous about changing out the CPU because my friend really helped me a lot before - but now he's in Mexico for a month, so I'm kind of on my own. I could wait until August when he gets back and have him help me again and give him back his i7 4770k, but I really want to try this on my own.

So it is just drop it in and apply TIM and then the cooler? Will it boot right up or are there adjustments/updates?

You can literally just drop it in, as long as you didn't have any overclock and your BIOS settings are all at auto.

You have the right idea after it boots you might wanna reinstall the chipset drivers but other then that itll work fine. I would highly suggest getting a new psu as soon as you possibly can as its not a trusted quality psu

Good thats what I was hoping. Thanks thats a relief.

And about the PSU...Really? It is a 80+ gold rated modular PSU and it seems very highly rated every where I look. I got mine for $100 too from my friend and he is seriously into computers. It has a 7 year warranty also. I know OCZ makes them now, but this unit supposedly has very high end components and Japanese capacitors. Its heavy as a rock.

Everywhere I looked it gets four or five stars out of five.

I got my i7 4790k today and it booted right up first time - no issues. I didn't have to install a single driver. ITS FREAKIN AWESOME!!!

Did you update to the latest BIOS for your board? Right before I took out my i7 4770k and changed procs, I checked on the MSI website and there was a new BIOS version 1.1. My board had version 1.0. I updated it and I think that may have made a difference. It went very smoothly after that . Had to reboot like two times and that was it. Easy peezy. Your system should be POSTing. Or you may have a bad board.

It was a PSU issue. I'm good now
