Approximate Purchase Date: 1st September

Budget Range: Up to £800 which is roughly $1300 (Before Rebates) - this excludes VAT (UK sales tax, 20%) as do the prices given below

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Blizzard games (WoW, SC2, Diablo 3 eventually), web development, other games, office stuff, surfing

Parts Not Required: Keyboard (Razer Anansi), Mouse (Razer Naga)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Novatech

Country of Origin: UK

Parts Preferences: I'm pretty sold on AMD and ATI but not sticking religiously to that or anything.

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Monitor Resolution: I need one, 1920+ res

Additional Comments: I've been a Mac user for the last 5 years, but I'm tired of not being able to upgrade much (and getting 11 FPS on WoW) so I'm coming back to PCs. I'd like my PC to be reasonably quiet, and I'd like a sleek looking case that's easy to fit.

Here's what I've got picked out so far:

AMD Quad Core Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz Socket AM3 - Retail (£73.32)

MSI ATI Radeon 6870 Twin Frozr II 1024MB GDDR5 PCIe (£120.82)

Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive - Retail (£141.66) - I currently only use about 80GB so this should be fine

Gigabyte GA-870A-USB3L AMD 870 (Socket AM3+) Motherboard (£54.99)

G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (1x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Single Memory Module x2 (£39.98)

OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Modular Power Supply (£53.32)

Samsung S222AB 22x DVD+/-RW SATA Black - OEM (£13.32)

BenQ G2420HD 61 cm (24") LCD Monitor (£120.86) - I know nothing about monitors, I picked this because it's full HD and 2/5ms

I still need a case and appropriate cooling for it.

Please can you offer any advice on my spec and any suggestions on a nice case for it all?

You want two sticks of RAM so that your RAM runs as dual channel and not single channel. I didn't see an o/s (Windows) in your build so I didn't put it in this one.

Novatech do finance :) Looks like Aria does too though so they would be OK.

@Why_Me: Thanks for that, I will consider it but whilst the i5 is much better than the 955, it's also twice the price so it really should be :-D Any views on its i3 equivalent? Although I gather they can't be O.C.

The 1155 i3's can't be over clocked, but they are hyper threaded and a decent cpu. They won't get you the numbers (FPS) that a quad core will like the i5 though.

Finance? I think SCAN offers finance packages as well.

This will give you a good idea of how things will be in terms of CPU:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/88?vs=288

Basically the i5 will trounce the 955 in most cases and it will really get the lead when it's thoroughly overclocked. But it's also about twice the price and AMD motherboards tend to be cheaper as well.

What can you salvage from your macs? i.e. monitors, hard drives, RAM, potentially processor.
