I'm going to build my first PC soon (after price drop) but I want to know if I must base it on DDR2 or DDR3? Seeing that DDR3 does cost more is it worth it?(because it's way more expensive)
The parts I am pretty sure of are:

Q6600
8800GTX
Silverstone 750W
X-fi Xtreme music
2x Seagate Barauda ST3400620AS
Samsung 226BW

So should i get 680i SLI and 2gigs PC2-6400
or
get P5K3 Deluxe and 2gigs DDR3

The same thought of Zorg above me.... get a P35 + DDR2

Not that I'm an expert but the expert had made reviews about DDR3 and they still have problem with latency and not always faster than DDR2 plus the cost is still too much

Go with DDR2. DDR3 is prohibitively expensive, and there isn't any real speed difference.

Timings on DDR3 modules are horrendous. 9-9-9-24? Un-f***ing-believable.

Same thing happend when DDR2 400 came out, it was no faster than DDR 400 as the latency's were better to. Right now DDR3 performs the same or worse than DDR2. I like the P35 from Asus as it replaces the very popular P5B Deluxe, one of the best overclockers ever. Plus DDR2 is at its prime right now as its mhz keeps getting higher.

My friend says that since Asus pretty much developed and gain major market shares around the world, they get very cocky.

I use a lot of Asus products: laptop, pda phone, etc but haven't got a problem with them... the support is amazing in Australia but I guess they are not amazing in some South East Asian countries....

Sorry that I'm out of topic....
