Hi guys, I am sure you get these requests a lot, but could you have a look at and provide feedback on this computer build.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/F2bJCb

I am looking to be able to edit 4k 60 fps, as my current system is a fairly old gtx 970 . i5 4690k build which struggles to do even basic video editing with premiere pro.

I would like advice on things which are potentially overkill, whether the components I have selected are reliable and specifically if I should upgrade to 64GB ram. I would also be interested in the opinion on using the last generation CPU and whether this would provide me better value and still be able to satisfy my use case.

Thanks for the support.

Hi Hellfire, is the RAM change important? I am trying to purchase all the components from amazon as this is my preferred vendor. Would you have any issues with the one I selected?

Also what significance is the case change? Just trying to understand :)

All of that just to make it cheaper without compromising on performance. You can go with your preferred RAM and Case if you want to.

I see, thanks for the information. What tools does someone (who has never made a pc before) need?

Specifically, with the CPU, you need a paste if you replace the cooler as with my original build right?

Screwdrivers of some sort will probably be needed too? Anti static gloves / matt?

I'm coming close to being quite happy with the build.

Do you think this is a good motherboard choice for this computer? What sort of watercooler would you recommend / would you recommend going for this?

I usually use a set of PC toolkit like this... https://www.amazon.com/Screwdriver-Professional-Precision-Extension-Maintenance/dp/B005JRTAYG
Its good to have anti static gloves handy and build on a non conducting mat.

If you want the best thermal paste, then go for this...

I am not a big fan of AIO. Does not usually give anything extra other than bling factor, but does have the chances of water damage if fails. The stock cooler of the CPU is actually pretty good unless you are pushing your clocks really hard.

As for the motherboard, MSI boards usually works better for Ryzen due to their timely BIOS patches and all around features including power phases.

I see, I will stick with the fan system I have then. Which MSI would be best for an mATX Motherboard to fit the mATX case?

Unfortunately there are no mATX x570 from MSI yet.

Shame. Well I really like the board you picked, does it need a BIOS update? Funny the more research I do the more I can't seem to beat your suggestion hahaha.

I think I will get this,
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Phanteks-E...id+Tower+Case&qid=1567601363&s=gateway&sr=8-1
the MSI board, and the rest as here:

Please let me know that there are no stupid decisions here and I will report back hopefully with a build next week.

I will leave the CPU as stock for now and upgrade it later if I need to overclock, which means no thermal paste for the time being.

Hellfire13 you have been amazing.

Nope. The X570 chipset is current gen. compatible out of the box with your CPU.
Hi I just wanted post an update that I completed my build over the weekend, and wanted to thank you once again for your help!

It was very challenging (for me) and took about 7 hours which is probably unbelievably slow. To be honest, I’m just ecstatic that it all worked!

Here’s a picture of the new build
