Here we go again! After seeing my build, my dad has asked me to build him one. He has been complaining about the LG laptop he currently uses and wants something reliable. He mainly uses it for business. Mostly MS office applications, web browsing, and tax software (nothing too intense). I would like something that is reliable and fast.
After doing some basic research, it seems AMD would be the way to go for a low budget system. I would like to keep it to under $600. I am going to be using NCIX.com and picking things up with in-store pickup with appropriate price matches. I already have the OS and a basic keyboard and mouse will be bought seperately.
Here is what I came up with so far ($CAD).
CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 640 - $97.69
MB: ASUS M4A88T-V EVO/USB3 - $83.80
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-10666CL8D-4GBXM 4GB - $30.50
HDD: WD Caviar Blue 320GB SATA 6GB/S 7200RPM 16MB - $39.99
PSU: CORSAIR Builder Series CX500 V2 500W - $44.99
DVD Drive: Anything - $19.99
Case: Antec 300 Case - $49.99
Total: $366.95 ($414.65 incl. 13% HST Tax)
This leaves some room for a monitor. Any suggesions?
I've always been an Intel guy, so your comments about the processor and motherboard would be much appreciated. I didn't include an GPU because there will be no gaming on this computer. There will be occasional video watching, but I am sure that can be handled. Would this build be able to handle hooking up to a 42" Samsung LED TV (via. DVI or HDMI)? I will likely add a midrange GPU down the line.
As for the other stuff, I think they are good choices. I know the PSU isn't that great. Any suggestions would be great. I'm thinking I only need 500W. I considered going the Micro ATX/ITX route, but the prices aren't that low and I want something that has room for upgrades in the future. With an AM3 socket and option for a video card in the future, I think I did alright here.
Thanks in advance!
