I wouldn't mind that much about the 4GB vs 8GB if the ~25$ price difference makes a difference to the OP; you will be able to run games with it no problems. The only difference is that you might not be able to keep that browser with 15 tabs opened and Word and Excel opened as well in the background 😛. However, the price drop argument isn't really a significant one IMO since prices are already so low, even a 50% price drop would only be ~25$.

If you'd follow the new builds on Tom's, you'd notice that 8GB IS the standard for any gaming machine. For $25 more, the OP gets 4GB more RAM and better upgrade capability - if he wants to, throw in 2 more 4GB sticks and you have 16. With your 2x2GB, he'd have to junk both of them...

I doubt that. I know some folks who're still rocking a Core 2 Quad with nVidia 8xxx/9xxx series cards and are happy with it - all because they didn't think their setups will be obsolete. For now, 2x4GB DDR3 1600 is enough, and that's final; everyone uses it nowadays and it's the sweetest spot for gaming.

There is "some" truth to that in the sense that smaller memory modules tend to have a bit less latency (not CAS), but it would be balanced-out by the extra latency introduced by having more modules (both probably not perceivable on their own except in some static benchmark contexts). Getting 4x2GB would, perhaps, make sense if you plan to get an Ivy Bridge platform which is supposed to support quad-channel memory.

If you look at amd llano benchmarks were memory has noticeable effects having 4 slots filled brings speed improvments. I assuming this happens for all systems but in a non perceivable way.

Good to know, but it might differ from one CPU architecture to another; the memory controller would probably the big difference.
