Build Advice New build for Video-editing

Hi, I am planning to build my first PC which I will be using it mostly for video editing. Although I have been using computers for many years, I am totally new to all the configuration and the compatibility issues….. and would appreciate tremendously with someone with more experience looking over the prospective build:


Case & MOBO: ASRock DeskMeet B660

(built in with a 500W power supply (80+ Bronze))

CPU: Intel Core i7-12700 2.1 GHz 12-Core Processor;

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L9i-17xx 33.84 CFM CPU Cooler;

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory;

Storages: 1, Western Digital Purple 4 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive;

(this 3.5” hard disk is mainly for storing videos) &

2, ADATA XPG GAMMIX S70 Blade 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME SSD;

Fan: Noctua NF-A12x15 PWM, Premium Quiet Slim Fan, 4-Pin (120x15mm, Brown)

(No GPU for the time being, may consider to add that later if require)


Parts: Total Price: $1,100 including Windows (Total Budget: $1,300)

What software are you using?
5400 RPM drives are pretty slow. 4TB disk is pretty small for a video editing oriented build.
You have $200 in the budget, you might consider a 2TB SATA SSD as working space. Then copy finished work off to the 4TB drive. An MX500 2TB is around $160 on amazon right now.

Do you really need a small pc?
Pre built pc's do not expand well.
In particular the power supplies used are of minimal quality and not suitable for running strong graphics cards.
Then, in this case, a small downdraft cooler is not likely to keep a 12700 sufficiently cool when all threads are in use.
The cooling ability of the case looks weak.
I think you can do better.

5400 RPM drives are pretty slow. 4TB disk is pretty small for a video editing oriented build.

Thank you so much for the advice.
Will be using ShotCut for the time being, Yes 5400RPM drives are slow, I was thinking of getting a SATA SSD for the video editing.
