[SOLVED] New build - Getting five beeps (CPU error) from Gigabyte B365M DS3H motherboard

Hey!

Building my son's first gaming PC and it's the first time I've built a PC in about 15 years. Here are my core components:

• Team Vulcan T-Force 16GB (2x 8GB) 3200MHz DDR4
• Kingston A400 120GB M.2-2280 SATA III SSD
• Intel Core i3 9100F 3.6GHz 4 Core CPU
• Gigabyte B365M DS3H Intel Socket 1151 Motherboard
• BE QUIET! BK008 Pure Rock Slim Heatsink & Fan
• Corsair CP-9020120-UK CX Series 450 W CX450 ATX/EPS 80 PLUS

All physical installation seemed to go well, except I needed to flip the heat sync direction around. I cleaned and re-added thermal paste when doing that and it seemed to go ok. From the first power up I've been getting 5 beeps, which apparently means a CPU error, and nothing on screen.

My concerns are that I....

1. damaged the pins in the motherboard when installing the CPU. It is definitely installed the correct way. Notches and arrow are facing the correct direction. I wasn't rough with the CPU and think I used the appropriate amount of pressure to get the metal lever down. How likely is it that those pins are damaged? (picture below & here)
2. damaged the CPU during install. Perhaps when adding thermal paste the second time maybe added too much and seeped over the edges. Is this likely to cause a short?
3. got the wrong PSU (Corsair CP-9020120-UK CX Series 450 W CX450 ATX/EPS 80 PLUS)
4. turned on the power with only the 24 pin ATX attached and not the CPU power. I rectified this and then the beeping started but without the CPU power it won't do any harm but clearly won't work either

Would really appreciate any advice. Is there a way to test the CPU and motherboard without buying a freshy?

You don't list a graphics card and that CPU does not have built-in graphics ...

In addition to the lack of any graphics solution, the Gigabyte B365M DS3H supports DDR4 2666/2400/2133 MHz memory modules. * To support 2666 MHz or XMP memory, you must install a 9th and 8th Generation Intel Core i9/i7/i5 processor.

An i3 would be limited to 2400/2133 MHz memory, yet you bought 3200MHz memory.

You don't list a graphics card and that CPU does not have built-in graphics ...

You're absolutely right. I do have a gfx card (Radeon RX580) . Plugged that in and it worked. 🤦‍♂️

I took it out earlier when I first had a problem with the install. Thought it would work without whilst I worked out if the CPU/Mobo/RAM was all ok.

That's true. I did notice that the memory would be limited by the CPU but it seemed to be the cheapest option at the time anyway.
