My brother just upgraded his pc and went with a 9400f, 16gb of ram. And a asus 2070.

The 2 games he has tried, assassins creed odyssey and bfv. On AC, he stays around 45-60fps with it max. From what I’m seeing online that’s close to normal for this build?

Bfv, he’s only getting 60fps maxed out as well. I feel like that is low. My build, with a 1070 and 6600k stock gets higher frame rates than that.

Any ideas?

its gotta be that cpu but also check to see if you have driver updates and software installed. but it most likely is a cpu bottleneck. can you tell me what the cpu and gpu usage is at during those games and what make/model psu he has

You're both playing on the same resolution? Considering both the 2070 and 9400 should outperform the 1070/6600k, those do seem low.

Is he using RTX in bfv, as that cripples performance. But bfv is rough anyways, I noticed. With my 6600k and 2080, I was struggling. With an up grade to a 7700, it got better, but still not great. Without RTX though 60fps should be easy.

Like stated above, are all drivers up to date? BIOS? Windows? Is v sync on? That will match the hz of the monitor, so a 60hz monitor will cap at 60fps.

I will check the rtx setting today. We both use 43” 4K tv’s, due to our budgets at the time of purchasing them a few years ago. They’re both 60hz but games before showed over 80fps even though it’s truely only displaying 60.

I checked monitors last night and I think we’ve become so spoiled to the size of these at a sub 300 price point that dropping 500-700 on a 27” monitor just seems crazy now

Also your at 4k you cant excpect extremely high fps at 4k and as long as u hit 60 fps consistently you should be fine i got a 1080p 144hz monitor for 200 and you can prob get a 1440p 144hz monitor for around 350 it will be amazing but if you cant afford the monitor then it is jist the refresh rate or 4k thats holding it back

Actually 43 inches is way too big for most people they want 27 inches because they can put it on their desk. Also those monitors have mlre features like higher refresh rate and reaponse time. Also they have tech like freesync and gsync. Theres a reason pc gamers dont use tvs very often.
