Yesterday I upgraded my 5 year old pc. Got a Gigabyte B660M Aorus Pro AX DDR4 Motherboard with a i7 12700k Cpu.

Connected everything and got black screen a few times. Unplugged GPU from the pcie 4.0 slot and managed to boot up with onboard graphics card.

Placed the GPU in the PCIe 3.0 slot and it worked fine. Plugged out and put it back into the pcie 4.0 slot and still black screen.

Is the pcie 4.0 not supposed to be backward compatible?

It is backwards compatible, im running 1080ti on z590 board.

Try find option to force top slot to pcie3. You're not running riser cable from pcie slot to gpu by any chance? Those that are pcie3 won't work on pcie4 slot under auto settings.

It seems there are problems with the Z690 boards as well - link

Do you have newest bios on motherboard?

pcie4 should be backwards compatible.

which slot is it in? I don't see one labelled pcie 3 or 4 on diagram on page 1-1 = https://download.gigabyte.com/FileL...220117.pdf?v=8decea07efea4613c9c2d372c39e4f04

I have not updated the bios as yet and I see that is a 2022 version. I will try that.

It should be yes

It is in the bottom slot that says pciex4 which is the pcie 3.0 slot the top one is the pcie 4.0 slot

It it yes but for some odd reason my gtx 1070 not working in it. I think it is issuess with the new 12th gen boards(not sure)

I will check under bios if there is an option like that. No riser cable at all. straight connection. So if I can find the force option I should be good then

Ok so after installing windows and all my drivers. Didn't even do a bios update. I plugged my gtx 1070 back into my pcie 4.0 and it booted up. So I am really not sure what the issue was but its running 100%.

Tx for all the help guys.
