I'm new to the whole PC world. This build was created this weekend: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/4GCXFT
I've had trouble running games that are not even graphically intensive and the graphics card was said to run modern games with no problem, so I thought maybe it was the power supply. But now I think its just that the monitor is VGA only. I have a VGA to VGA cable so I think my computer has only been using Intel's integrated HD graphics instead. Will a VGA to DVI cable or converter fix this problem? I have a 21.5" LCD monitor 1920x1080 60hz, not sure if this matters. Also if the cable or converter does work, will quality be noticeably sacrificed? Thanks for your time and help.

If your monitor is NOT plugged into the gfx card, it will of course be using the on-board gfx. You need to move the monitor's cable to the gfx card.
Next, be sure you have the latest driver for the card installed. The one on the disk that came with the gfx card is probably older than the one on the website:

The fact that you are using an analog (VGA) connection will make no difference in performance. But if your monitor has a DVI (digital) or HDMI (digital) ports on it, use one of those instead for a better looking display.
